Open electrode protection is one of the most effective methods to prevent metal electrochemical corrosion. It applies a certain cathodic current to the protected metal to make it produce cathodic polarization. When the turtle position of the metal is negative to a certain potential value, the anodic dissolution process of corrosion will be effectively inhibited. According to the different ways of providing cathodic current, cathodic protection can be divided into sacrificial anode method and impressed current method. Sacrificial anode method is to electrically connect a metal or alloy with a more negative potential to the protected metal structure, and provide protective current to the broken protective object through the continuous consumption and dissolution of the electronegative metal or alloy, so that the metal structure can be protected. The impressed current method is to convert the external alternating current into low voltage direct current, and transfer the protection current to the protected metal structure through the auxiliary anode, so as to inhibit the corrosion. The system measures the ink potential through the reference electrode and reversely explodes the control signal to the potentiostat to adjust the output current, so that the metal structure is in a good protective state.

In general, the cost of cathodic protection only accounts for 1%-3% of the cost of the protected metal structure, and the service life of the structure can be doubled or even dozens of times longer. As cathodic protection has the advantages of simple equipment, convenient construction and long protection time, it has been developed and widely used in recent years. It is an applicable technology with low investment, good effect and economic benefits.
