System requirements and consumption calculation of magnesium alloy sacrificial anodes
Sacrificial anodes are usually used economically only in structures with low current protection requirements and in low soil resistivity environments. In addition, when there is no power supply conditions or uneconomic situation is useful.
The sacrificial anode materials suitable for soil are mainly magnesium, zinc and aluminum in seawater. In order to keep the current output as stable as possible and reduce the ground resistance of the anode, the sacrificative anode in the soil should be surrounded by a chemical packing material consisting mainly of 75% calcium sulfate, 20% bentonite and 5% sodium sulfate. Sacrificial anodes should not be buried in coke and should be at least 3m apart when used in groups. The soil cover at the top of the anode should be at least 0.6m thick. In order to be able to measure the blackout potential, the sacrificative anode shall be connected to the piping through the measuring box. When the sacrificative anode is used in the vicinity of the AC traction system, the AC induced continuous voltage on the anode body shall not exceed 20V.
Consumption calculation
W = (I * t * 8766)/(U * Z * Q)
I Anode current output (Amps)
T Design life (yrs)
U current efficiency (0.5)
Theoretical Z capacitance (2200Ah/kg)
Q Anode utilization rate (85%)
W Anode weight (Kg)
